Holy Spirit Cathedral is another catholic cathedral located in Minsk. Its history begins in the XVII century. Therefore, it is unsurprising that the cathedral is the guardian of many shrines. The history of this Cathedral is difficult: in the XVIII century it was the victim of a fire, then it was disbanded, turned into an Orthodox Church, which was disbanded again in 1922. This cathedral is known for the fact that it imprisoned the rebels who had organized the national liberation during the movement of 1863-1864.
After the revolution, the devastated monastery was used as a prison for dispossessed kulaks. The restoration of the cathedral began in 1943. Thanks to the tangible support from Philotheus, who had sold two of his houses, a new iconostasis was created, the monastery was revived and the Church was consecrated. Two years later the cathedral was given a very old and important icon, which is the Minsk image of the Mother of God. An interesting legend is associated with the icon, according to which the icon itself was written by the Apostle Luke. Brought to Kyiv by Prince Vladimir, it was kept in the Church of the Tithes, but during the Tatar-Mongol yoke the icon was thrown into the river. However, in 1500, the icon was thrown on the shore of the Svisloch by the stream and since then it became the property of Minsk, never leaving the city.
The building, made in the Baroque style, is attractive to tourists due to its appearance, and his troubled history. Today this cathedral is one of the most revered Minsk churches.
